CHALLENGE
FEDA needed to integrate cold water monitoring in all its buildings to support its energy efficiency plan. The goal: reduce water waste, detect leaks early, and track consumption in real time even during power or communication failures.
SOLUTION
Industrial Shields provided a complete monitoring system based on open-source industrial hardware:
- Water meters with pulse emitters (1 pulse = 1 liter).
- Industrial Shields PLCs with µSD memory and up to 12 I/O.
- Communication via MODBUS TCP over Ethernet to a SCADA system.
- PLCs programmed in C++, ensuring data is not lost during communication outages.
Even during a power cut, recorded pulses remain safe thanks to local storage. The SCADA visualizes water usage and enables alarms, analytics,and reports.
RESULT
- Real-time monitoring of water consumption.
